Giving

Giving

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

James 1:17 ESV

As an act of worship, the believer says, “Thank you” to God, by returning to Him a portion of the material blessings he or she received from the Lord.  And in doing so, the believer also puts his confidence into action.  We believe that God will continue to meet every need we have, and so we are not reluctant to part with anything he’s previously given:

25   “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. (Matt 6:25–32 ESV)

But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. (1 Tim 6:8 ESV)

11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. (Phil 4:11 ESV)

19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Phil 4:19 ESV)

At Living Hope, as one local expression of Christ’s holy world-wide church, we use all such sacrificial gifts to the glory of God, toward the expansion of Christ’s kingdom and strengthening of Christ’s reign in the church.
